Middle Grade Programs

Junior Achievement middle school programs build on principles from the elementary school programs, to help students recognize education as a key to success.  The importance of education and staying in school, is stressed, while introducing students to more in-depth economic concepts and the world of work.

Programs Middle School

Program Delivery

We offer three volunteer delivery methods for JA middle grade programs:

  • JA in a Day – Volunteer(s) delivers a full grade program to with students during one marathon, full-day classroom visit.
  • JA Weekly – Volunteer(s) deliver each program lesson once a week in 5-6 visits lasting 30 minutes each (K-2nd grades) or 45 minutes each (3rd-5th grades). Visits take place during school hours.
  • JA at Work – Volunteer(s) host students at their company or organization for career exploration and college preparation field trip such as JA Job Shadow or a Youth Leadership Conference.

JA programs correlate to New York Learning Standards  for social studies for grades K-12 as well as the Common Core standards in English/Language Arts and mathematics.

JA More Than Money®: 3rd-5th Grade

Programs Middle School more than money

Teaches students about earning, spending, sharing, and saving money, and businesses they can start or jobs they can perform to earn money. Six 45-minute, volunteer-led sessions. Click here to learn more.

Programs Middle School its my biz

Emphasizes entrepreneurship with a focus on social studies, reading, and writing skills. Students are encouraged to use critical thinking to learn entrepreneurial skills that support positive attitudes as they explore and enhance their career aspirations. Chocolate Maker: 6th-8th Grade / Local Program

Programs Middle School chocolate maker

Chocolate Maker is a daylong workplace-based business plan competition for middle school students. This program is hosted by local business partners who provide volunteers to coach student teams and office technology to facilitate a high-level, real-world educational experience. Programs Middle School JA University Volunteer Guide

Discusses important college readiness topics including options for post-secondary education, planning a budget, and making a personalized college action plan. Three volunteer-led sessions can be completed at the school or a host company. Click here for more details.

Programs Middle School finance park

Helps students build a foundation for making intelligent, lifelong, personal financial decisions through hands-on, realistic site-based experiences. Sixteen teacher-led activities plus a four-hour on-site experience. Click here for more details.

JA Global Marketplace®: 6th-8th Grade

Provides practical information about the global economy and its effect on students’ lives.  Six 45-minute, volunteer-led sessions.

Programs Middle School Job Shadow

The JA Job Shadow and the Youth Leadership Conference programs introduce students to careers through one-day, on-site orientations in the workplace. Two teacher-led classroom sessions prior to the three-four hour work-site visit, and one follow-up classroom session.  Click here for more information.
