


High School Heroes
HIGH SCHOOL HEROES
The JA New York High School Heroes program provides high school role models to help inspire elementary students to succeed. Heroes serve as "teachers for a day" in New York City outer boroughs and Long Island-based schools.
JA New York High School Heroes:
- Serve as powerful role models for younger children in their communities
- Exemplify the importance of staying in school, civic involvement and community engagement
- Develop and strengthen personal leadership, communication, presentation and team-building skills
- Make a valuable investment in the future economic well-being of their communities by delivering lessons in money management and basic financial literacy skills to elementary school students
- Increase their self-confidence levels and feel valued and empowered to make a difference in the lives of others
- Earn community service credit to meet graduation and other school requirements
- Can enter the High School Heroes Essay Contest and become a featured Hero
IMPACT HIGHLIGHTS
- 1,411 High School Heroes from 37 high schools taught 661 classes in 59 elementary schools, reaching 15,036 elementary school students
- Deepened impact by offering additional JA program opportunities to the High School Heroes
- Two essay winners went on to be selected as 2010-2011 Students of the Year
