JA New York has fun and engaging volunteer opportunities for student-led groups to make some great memories while changing the lives of kids in NYC, Long Island and the Lower Hudson Valley.

You don’t have to be from a local college to get involved; out-of-state students are invited to spend your spring break with us in New York City!

What Materials And Support Are Provided?

Involved Volunteer Opportunities For College Students A free two-hour training and orientation session to introduce you to the JA volunteer experience

A grade appropriate JA curriculum kit, with everything you need to teach and inspire your class

Placement in a local, high-needs school to provide you and your group with a positive and rewarding team volunteer experience

Onsite support, guidance and trouble-shooting during your volunteer experience

Opportunity to share your volunteer experience with your friends and family and engage their support of your JA Alternative Spring break Experience through the “Sponsor My Classroom” initiative

Photographs of your volunteer experience

PR/media opportunities (optional)

Is Prior Teaching Experience Necessary?

No! All you need is enthusiasm and a desire to help students become more successful. A JA program manager will support you throughout the entire volunteer experience. In addition, the classroom teacher will always be present to lend a helping hand.

When you decide that volunteering with JA New York is a good fit for your group, we can set up a date and time to provide your team with training then connect you with a school. JA and the classroom teacher will provide on-site assistance as your team leads an exciting day of learning for your students.
